2012, Disinformation, and Fear Mongering

Researching the Maya culture is a non stop multi layered  battle for truthful information.  I certainly am not the only one interested and can’t be the only one falling into the pitfalls of researching this date. From books, to journalism, to videos, to people, there seems to be  many dead end streets. I am looking for the information highway, a non stop ride into history,  where I can find true wisdom, not mass produced made up wisdom, so that what will be, will be wiser.

New Age?
For starters you have to go to the New Age section to find information on the old age.  How does that make sense? Who came up with that term? Placing Maya studies next to psychic Sylvia Brown takes the cake. It is hard to find serious factual based work.  The Maya have been building pyramids on the continent of America since atleast 300 BC. The lost pyramid of Mirador proves that. The ability to build the worlds largest pyramid in 300 BC didn’t just happen. Common sense would dictate it took them time to learn the art of building, astronomy, writing, and so on. One could easily say the Maya have been here since 1300 BC and most likely much longer than that.  So why is it “New Age” then? Is it the shame of history that forces the corporations to label them New Age? Why strip them of the dignity of an ancient long lasting civilization? Is it becase for 500 plus years  the “new world” has been waging war on the “old world”  for their land and destroying several thousand years of history and wisdom? I wonder.

Using 2012 to Sell
What about all the books claiming 2012 on their jackets that really have nothing to do with it, other than selling you their product, idea, or fear in general. It is mostly about the authors or products, not about the Maya.  The December 21st, 2012 date wouldn’t be so popular if it weren’t for the Maya. After all, it is about their calendar. Most of what is on the bookshelves is regurgitated information that has been copied and pasted into something that doesn’t resemble the Maya in the least bit. So what’s the deal with that? Why the concerted effort on the publishing companies behalf to put out false information? Why are we being treated like 5th graders and given books that are easily read and don’t require much thinking? It’s like the thinking has been done for us, and, not in a good way. Are you trying to hide the fact that the Maya provided  water to all the millions of people in their society for free? Do you not want us to know that corporations are behind the genocide that has been going on in Central America for many decades now? Or could it be that you don’t want us to know that the Maya still exist? Or wait, could it be that you want us to forget that anything prior to the U.S.A. existed? I don’t get it.

Sun Worshipers and Virgin Sacrifices
How is it that a sacred, brilliant, respectable culture has been boiled down to sacrificers and sun worshipers? My best guess is  the “sun worshiping”  is to keep the son worshiping Christians away. After all, it’s evil and satanic! It has Lucifer written all over it doesn’t it?  It must be evil to learn about such heathens, right? How about the “sacrificing of virgins”?  My best guess is that is designed to keep the rest away. After all, they must be barbaric to do such things, right?  We would never sacrifice our young for anything would we? Oh wait, WAR. That’s right, it’s okay to sacrifce our own young and additional innocent civilians (and pissed off civilians because we are all up in their grill and stuff)  all over the globe because the western world is bringing democracy to everyone. A round of democracy on us, world, enjoy!

So back to sun worshiping. The western world calls it worshiping. The rest of the world calls it an allegorical story. That is a multi layered story weaved with literal, practical, and spiritual messages. After all, they didn’t believe the sun was a real person.  That is fact. We can’t say as much about ourselves. What about the sacrificing of virgins. Well, that is Hollywood at its best, trying to scare you  and train your perception of ancient behavior.  God forbid we look at death as an objective part of life.  Instead we are taught to be afraid of it.  The Maya who sacrificed themselves chose to, they weren’t victims of murder. It was a deeply spiritual conscious choice made by the Maya person, that is why it is called a sacrifice. They sacrificed their flesh which is not permanent, for a greater spiritual cause in which they truly believed.  We are so important that we  can’t even sacrifice our text messaging while driving or sacrafice talking on our cell phones while in line at the grocery store. The modern world really had no idea of the concept of sacrifice, let alone, the greatest of all sacrifices. Why would we, didn’t Jesus sacrifice for us so we wouldn’t have to? Huh, I guess that translates to walking around living but dead inside since we have no urge or need to sacrafice anything. After all, its all about the “I”.  Screw everyone else. So the next time you hear or see something about the sun worshiping virgin sacrificers, stop and think about it for a moment and realize that you are being mislead.

Fear Mongering
On to the final frontier of 2012, fear mongering. Trying to find a book with some depth, a show with some meaning, or a news article with some truth is nearly impossible. Thank goodness for John Major Jenkins, anyways, I digress. It has been called apocalyptic, armageddon, doomsday, end of the world,  cataclysmic, annihilation, catastrophic, and probably 10 other synonyms for the end of the world. We are told everyone is terrified of 2012. I’m not, no one asked me.  Well, it’s not a suprise since most books and stories on the Maya and 2012 claim a prophesized doomsday.  Fear sells, fear incapacitates, and fear controls people. That is why this date has been hijacked. It will make money for people looking to capitalize on a repressed people, it will incapacitate people wanting to change their own lives for the better, and it controls you by trapping you into a  certain way of thinking. The fear being sold right now is catastrophic death.

The Truth
Well people, we are all going to die. I don’t mean it in a rude way, myself  included. It is the fact of life, and what a shame to finally get that fact once death is knocking on your door. You ever notice how everything is dualistic? Like male and female, winter and summer, good and bad, day and night, light and dark , life and death, joy and pain,  and so forth. You can’t have one without the other.  Avoiding one side of the dual for the other is just denial of it, doesn’t make it go away. Ignorance of it is pretty bad too.  Acknowledging the multiple sides to humanity and integrating them into living is what life is all about. Now, our culture doesn’t tell us this. We  are instead lead to believe life is materialistic and we are only as good as our property or looks and death is to be run from as quick as possible. We must work, buy, work, buy, work, buy, and when we are no longer valid to work we are dumped and treated as worthless by society. If we can’t buy or work or both, we are considered useless.  We get old, we are useless.  How is this done you ask? Through fear mongering, which  is a crafty way of toying with our emotions. Controlling your emotions, without you knowing it is happening,  is the sickest invention of the western world. Living based off our emotions is just as bad. It is a viscious cycle that we need to come to terms with.

2012 is just the latest use of this, but,  it has been going on since humans discovered material pleasures. We have been attached to them ever since. The sellers found out the only way you are going to buy a product is if you feel (your emotions tell you) you need that product. Eff the fact that little kids in different countries are our slaves, just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they are not there. They make great jeans and I must have them! Ahhh, who cares that the must have product is poisonous to our earth, but I need it. This way of  life is down right delusional and that is what the true anti-christ is, or as the Maya would call it, Seven Macawism. In the Maya creation story Popul Vuh, Seven Macaw is the false god sitting up in his perch with eyes of gold and teeth made of gems, squawking to the whole world he is the way, leading the people astray.

Being attached to life or material posessions of any kind veil true spirituality. Enjoying life and it’s material comforts isn’t wrong. It is just checking yourself to make sure you aren’t attached, making sure your and others lives are valid without them.  If you buy into the fear of anything, from 2012, to not having long eye lashes, to needing penis enlargement pills, to needing anti-depressants, to not having the next and best latest gadget, then you are not in control of your own life. You are being controlled by the fear of not being good enough and ultimately your life ending unfufilled because everything you are grasping for is fleeting. Now if you start contemplating and reflecting on the duals of life then you begin integrating the two. Whether it be life and death, joy and pain, anger and happiness, good and bad, if you reflect on them then you are well on your way to a better life lived. And best of all, you will be able to spot fear mongering and not let it control you.

So the next time you turn on FoxNews, CNN, MSNBC, Discovery channel, the History channel, PsyFi, walk into a grocery store, book store, or any place that is making money off of you, yes YOU, be aware of the fear mongering. It takes many shapes. It is kind of like that one bible phrase “I am legion and we are many”. It is learning to discern quality versus quanity. This is one of those things, that,  if you don’t  live your life based on fear, you will naturally influence those around you, and, then those will influence more and so on. That is truly the only way the world is going to change. Not by telling someone something, but by doing.

Just saying, people.
