Nostradamus and the Mayan Prophecies

I recently took a vacation to Idaho Springs and Denver, Colorado. In addition to breathing in the majestic views (and some bugs) by ATVing up and down the Rocky Mountains with a great ATV guide named Randy from Rocky Mountain Quads (whom I highly recommend), I stopped at a book store called Tattered Cover. What a place! It is described as being more boutique than corporate but huge none the less. It is refreshing to go to a non-corporate huge bookstore. Some girls buy shoes, I buy books.  Avid reading is a huge part of my life and I seek knowledge through books. I generally do not read fiction, and my particular non fiction flavor is history, comparative religion, archaeoastronomy, and symbolism. That includes everything from world religions, theology, philosophy, astronomy, astrology, mysticism, and everything in between. I found a book that I had been seeking for months. This book was published in Spanish and it has now been translated into English. It is called The Book of Destiny by Carlos Barrios. Mr. Barrios is a Shaman and Member of the Mayan Elders Council. He is as close as we will get to authentic Mayan history and facts. There are many pieces of information that surprised me and one of them is the connection between the Mayans and Nostradamus.

Many books have been published on the Mayans and the meaning of their lives, calendars, and prophecy. I have read more than my fair share. This is the only one I have read that is written by a Mayan and told from their point of view.  At the request of the Mayan Elders,  Mr. Barrios was tasked with opening up the Mayans to the world. This was done so that the words are coming directly from them and not speculation of so called scholars. He explains their history, their calendars, and how they are used to divine information for future use. One thing that strikes me about the Mayans would be their sophistication. The western world tends to turn their noses at “primitive cultures”. The Mayans were anything but primitive. Their use of technology is something to behold. Mathematics, Astronomy, Agriculture, Medicine, Art, Astrology, and Spirituality have been used successfully by the Mayans for thousands of years. The best part of it all is that they used that technology for the good of their clans and it hasn’t changed. Talk about consistency!  They did not disrespect the earth and all its wondrous life forms. They never took more then needed and flourished in an area covering 200,000 square miles. The Book of Destiny not only opens us up to their world of sacred calendars, it more importantly gives their history. Anyone interested in the Maya should read this book.

The following quote is taken from the introduction and how can one disagree?

“Their cosmo-vision, that is , their view of time and space based on a philosophy of harmonious coexistence with nature - is the truth behind creation, the truth regarding human existence. It teaches us to live in harmony with nature and to respect every life form, beginning with ourselves.”

In the 1500’s Spain arrived, decimated the Mayans and a large majority of their written history. They, however, did not destroy their oral history as it has been passed down from generation to generation without ever deleting or adding a word, this backed by what little written data has been preserved. The Mayan Elders had prophesied this arrival of the Spaniards and sent many of their own into the deep jungles  for the continuation of their people. The elders also told their clans the best way to survive is to not be noticed. The Mayan people who didn’t flee were to hide what effectively made them Mayans, their lifestyle, rituals, calendars, and divination. The elders had told their clans that this was going to be a dark period lasting slightly over 400 years. A concerted decision was made for the good of the group to not fight back. If the Mayans had fought, Spain would have come back and destroyed them fully.  In this decision they made, the Mayans did survive and were never fully eradicated. They were raped, pillaged, and burnt to the ground. The Spanish in their ignorance couldn’t tell between their various calendars and rituals, thus attempted to destroy everything because the Mayans, in one of the greatest acts of European ignorance, were of the devil, possibly not human, and used witchcraft. And we in the Western world call ancient civilizations primitive? I don’t get it.  This assault on the Mayans lasted into the late 1980’s and they are still here. The dark period of over 400 years is over and now they are  into a prophesied 500 plus years of a light period where they are now free to speak and be. This was all prophesied by the Mayans and it seems that they certainly had over 400 years of hell on earth. Let’s hope that the 500 plus years of light will also come to be as they deserve it.

Prophecy in the western world is worse than the eff word. You can walk around spewing foul language and it is okay. Bring up prophecy and you are likely to be considered a quack and since science hasn’t “proved” it, it is not possible. I’m not closing my mind to the prospect of it, that is ignorance. Considering that President Reagan used astrologers, I’m pretty sure prophecy is used regularly by world leaders.  We are taught to live based on logic and consumption.  If you can’t see it or prove it or buy it, it’s not real and quackery. Prophecy is a huge part of the Mayan tradition. For a people that survived 12,000 years  and arguably longer, maybe a little respect and true open mindedness into their traditions and way of life are in order. This is a culture that truly embraced what mother nature offered to teach. They lived in reality.  They didn’t exclude the cycles of the stars nor did they exclude the cycles of earth itself. It is all part of life and equally affect it. It is quite naive and ignorant of us to not give credence to this part of the Mayan lifestyle as it is a huge part of their being. The following exerpt is a chapter in The Book of Destiny called Nostradamus and the Mayan Prophecies:

There is a special story told by our Grandfathers regarding one of the most renowned prophets in history, none other than Michel de Notredame, better known as Nostradamus. Don Ramon Carbala, a Mayan sage, told the following to me after a fire ritual at the ceremonial center of Tikal.

With the Pleiades visible in the sky as night fell, Don Ramon suddenly asked me what I knew about Nostradamus. Before I could answer, he said something that surprised me.

“Did you know that Nostradamus knew Mayan astrology?”
“No.” I replied. “How is that even possible?”

As he sat on the grass in Tikal’s plaza, Don Ramon said, “You know, history had forgotten all about a particular man, a doctor. No one knows if he was from Spain or Germany because he would sometimes introduce himself as Ulrico de Maguncia and other times as Ulrich vonMaguncen. This doctor came to the Americas with the conquistadors, and in battle he would tend to both the Spaniards and the indigenous people. His superiors weren’t pleased; they didn’t want him treating the natives. After being questioned several times, de Maguncia replied that he had to be true to his Hippocratic oath. The Spanish captains argued that it hadn’t yet been determined  whether the aboriginals were human or not. De Maguncia declared that he would leave for Europe if he weren’t allowed to treat all patients equally. Because he was the only doctor, the Spaniards were forced to accept his conditions. When the conquistadors arrived in Chichen Itza, Mexico, the Mayan priests had already heard about de Maguncia’s stance and invited him to exchange ideas. He accompanied them into the jungle and wasn’t heard from for fourteen years. The Spaniards assumed he was dead. Actually, de Maguncia was studying the Mayan sciences - medicine, astronomy, and astrology in particular.

“When the plague hit Europe, the Mayan elders were afraid that it would make its way to the Americas and cause even more deaths here. They told de Maguncia how to control the problem and asked him to go back.

“The Spanish civil and religious authorities in the city of Merida, Mexico were shocked when he appeared before them, his hair grown long, dressed in a white Mayan tunic. He asked for permission to return to Europe and was finally given the funds to finance his voyage. De Maguncia chose to go to France because that is where he studied for the priesthood before becoming a doctor. Quite strangely, he renounced his vows the day he was ordained and turned to studying medicine.

“Back in the chaos that was Europe, Nostradamus was one of the first of the alchemists, doctors, and sorcerers whom de Maguncia recruited. To get rid of the scourge, he instructed them to boil the water, burn the deceased’s clothing, and put calcium in the graves and on the walls of the houses.

“Once the plague was under control, seven people came to study what de Maguncia had been taught by the Mayan elders. Nostradamus became his closest disciple and learned to divine using the cauldron. The Mayan technique, unlike the European, used powdered quartz and mercury to obtain more clarity in the images of the past, present, and future. Nostradamus also studied Mayan astrology and projection techniques. Many of the quatraines in his centuries can only be understood if you are familiar with Mayan astrology, and Mayan experts are still making projections about Nostradamus’s centuries. All agree that December 21, 2012, is not the end of the world but a change in the state of humanity.

“Ulrico de Maguncia and Nostradamus formed a secret society in which they taught ancient alchemy, astrology, and magic techniques brought from Egypt, India, Greece, and the Mayan world. Nostradamus was put in charge of this group when de Maguncia returned to the Americas.”

There ended the story that Don Ramon told me some ten years ago. When I spoke to him recently and asked for permission to include it here, he told me much more about the secret society, which he called “the Brotherhood,” and how it has maintained contact with the Mayan clans and tribes. When the time is right, I will be able to share this with the world.

Prophecy is a deep rooted tradition in world history, not just Mayan history. A world history that brought us medicine, math, astronomy, agriculture, navigation, calendars, and many other technical and scientific innovations. Why is it that prophecy isn’t included in this list of ancient contributions? I for one am suspect of the reasons. Logic can’t be the reason, we believe plenty of illogical things if you think about it. Is Jesus logical? Can you see him, touch him, logically prove he lived? A little study into comparative religion shows that Jesus is in fact the Sun and the twelve apostles are the twelve constellations of the zodiac and is taken from older religions.  The difference between western religious philosophy and most earlier religions is we are taught to believe the story as actual history and not an allegory. Whose logic and reality are we following? The church? The only church in the world that has an embassy because it is so powerful, the church which stole its stories from previous religions, the church who needs you to believe their story for control and money, the church that wants you to believe there is a devil in the ground waiting for you after death if you do not follow their rules, the church that says prophecy is a tool of the devil?  Ironically this is the same church that sent the conquistadors around the world who ushered in the prophesied 400 years of darkness for the Mayans. Coincidence?
